We at Modest by Design believe that dressing modestly shows respect not only for ones self but for God and his commandments. We also believe that we can set an example for the world that it is possible to dress modestly as well as fashionably. We will strive to provide our customers with quality clothing and great customer service. Above all, we will serve God with all of our heart, mind, might, and strength.

About Us

Modest by Design Clothing Company is owned and operated by Eddie and Heather Gist and Jeff and Elaine Ferguson. We are family owned business specializing in a variety of fashionable modest clothing.

Eddie Gist always wanted to have his own clothing line, and has been sewing since the 7th grade. He graduated from high school with a tailoring certificate, and as a state-champion wrestler. He received a wrestling scholarship from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, where he earned his B.A. in Fashion Merchandising.

After graduating, Eddie continued to dream of having his own clothing company, but after joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Eddie's ideas of fashion changed somewhat from what he had imagined. He found himself as concerned with modesty as he was with style. The idea came to Eddie and Heather that they could create and market a line of clothing that women and young women could feel elegant, beautiful, stylish, and modest in.

In 1999, with the support of his wife Heather, a self-described "fashion fanatic", and her parents, Jeff and Elaine Ferguson, they started Modest by Design Clothing Company! Over the 6 years that they have been in business they have had customers from all over the world, and encompassing many different religions, including Christians of many different denominations as well as members of the Islamic and Jewish faiths. This has strengthened their resolve to continue our quest of searching for, designing, and providing the very best in Modest Clothing.
