Carol Tomkinson

Our Grand Prize Winner! (2001)

Carol had the dress she designed made for her. Additionally, Modest by Design provided a limosuine and dinner for her prom night.

We have pictures of the lucky couple that will be placed online shortly!

"My dress, made of powder blue satin, has a high boat-neck and short sleeves. The empire waist and neckline each slope down into a gentle "V" in the back. It is floor length with a small sweep train. White chiffon drapes across the front and back neckline, and falls down the back in a long sash. Small, delicate rhinestones trim the neckline, waistline, and sleeves."

"There are plenty of reasons for me to dress modestly. My parents have taught me to. My religious leaders and teachers have counseled me to. People have been telling me to dress modestly since I was practically five years old. But I feel that the best reason for me to dress modestly is because it gives me a feeling of self worth.

It is said in the Bible, Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies (Proverbs 31:10). Ive always wanted to be a woman who was more valuable than the riches of the earth

Every time I walk through the mall, gazing at all the beautiful gowns on display in the windows, I sigh and think is it really that bad to wear a sleeveless dress? Theyre all so pretty and then I remember that Ive committed myself to. I know whats right for me. I know that sleeves and high necklines are more beautiful than any spaghetti-strapped, satin skirted Jessica McClintock dress at Dillards. I smile and walk away, knowing that my self, confidence, and beauty is worth far more than a prom formal."
